My organization is tax-exempt, but the store is applying tax to my purchase. How do I get that removed?

Unfortunately, all purchases through our online store will have taxes automatically applied. In order to make a tax-exempt purchase please email a copy of your tax-exempt certificate to us at Contact@ElectrathonParts.com along with a list of the parts you wish to purchase and we will send you an invoice. Payment can then be made via check.

How do I decide which gear ratio to go with?

First, find your motor’s speed per volt (the manufacturer usually publishes this—for the motor used in THE CRATE it is 100rpm/volt) and multiply that by the voltage of your battery pack. Generally you want to use about 95% of that number in the calculations for the best accuracy to account for motor speed drop under load. Next find an online gear ratio calculator such as https://electricscooterparts.com/motorwheelgearratio.html and start playing around with the number of teeth on the motor and the rear wheel. I like to first decide what speed I think I’m going to need to average on a given track in order to be competitive. I then usually add about 5 mph to that so I have a buffer to use for passing and use that number as my target top speed as I play with different ratios in the calculator. Remember, if your car is geared for a top speed well above what you know you can safely achieve given the track type, you are just wasting amps on acceleration trying to get up to speed with a less than optimal gear ratio. This is especially true with smaller motor sizes. Most motors have max efficiency somewhere around the 3/4 throttle range so that is generally where you want to be when cruising.
